Engine & Transmission Repair

The jobs general shops send away — timing chains, turbos, internal engine faults, DSG and automatic transmission failures — repaired in-house and finished properly: every job ends with the programming, coding and adaptations the car needs to drive like it left the factory.

◆ Mechanical + software

A repair isn't finished until the software says so

Modern engines and gearboxes are run by their control modules. Replace a mechatronic unit, a clutch pack, injectors or a timing chain and the car still needs adaptations, coding or calibration — the step most mechanical shops can't do and most programming shops can't reach. We do both under one roof, so the car leaves fixed, adapted and fault-free.

Overview

Complex engine & transmission repair in Massachusetts

When a modern car has a serious engine or gearbox problem, most owners get two bad options: a dealer quote for a whole new unit, or a general shop that can do the mechanical work but can't program, code or adapt the car afterwards. That last step is where many repairs go wrong — the car is back together, but it still shifts badly, idles rough or throws faults.

ECU Perform closes that gap. We diagnose with factory-level software, repair the engine or transmission in our Worcester workshop, then program and adapt the control modules with dealer-level tools — one shop, one invoice, and one conversation with your extended warranty company if you have one.

  • Engine diagnostics — compression, leak-down, oil consumption, misfires, noises
  • Timing chains, tensioners, guides and VANOS / cam phasers
  • Turbochargers, oil feed lines, intercoolers and boost leaks
  • Head gaskets, water pumps, thermostats and cooling systems
  • DSG / S tronic mechatronics, clutch packs and adaptations
  • Automatic transmissions — ZF 8HP, 7G-Tronic, PDK: valve bodies, solenoids, conductor plates
  • Engine & gearbox replacement — used or remanufactured units programmed to your VIN

Engine repair

🔧 Complex engine repair

The big jobs — diagnosed with data first, so you only pay for the repair the engine actually needs.

Timing chains & VANOS

Stretched chains, failed tensioners and guides, cam-phaser and VANOS faults on BMW N20 / N55, VW / Audi EA888, Mercedes M272 / M274 and more — with the adaptations reset afterwards.

Turbochargers

Turbo replacement, oil feed and return lines, wastegates and boost leaks — then a data log to confirm boost control is right.

Head gaskets & cooling

Overheating, coolant loss or mixing, water pumps, thermostats and radiators — pressure-tested and verified.

Oil leaks & consumption

Valve covers, oil filter housings, rear main seals, PCV systems and oil-consumption diagnosis.

Internal engine faults

Compression and leak-down testing to find the real cause — then repair, or a used / remanufactured engine installed and programmed to your car.

Fuel & injection

Direct-injection injectors replaced and coded, high-pressure fuel pumps, carbon build-up and misfire diagnosis.

Transmission repair

⚙️ Transmission repair & programming

Dual-clutch and automatic gearboxes repaired — then coded, programmed and adapted with factory software so they shift like new.

DSG / S tronic

Mechatronic units, clutch packs and solenoids on DQ200, DQ250, DQ381 and DQ500 — replaced, coded and adapted with ODIS.

ZF 8HP

Fluid and filter service, valve-body and mechatronic repair, harsh-shift and flare fixes — adaptations reset with factory software.

PDK

Porsche PDK fluid service, sensor and control faults, and post-repair adaptation and calibration with PIWIS III.

7G-Tronic & 9G-Tronic

Mercedes 722.9 conductor-plate and speed-sensor failures, limp mode and valve bodies — programmed and SCN coded.

Torque converters & shudder

Shudder, slipping and lock-up faults diagnosed with live data — repaired or replaced, then adapted.

Gearbox replacement

Used or remanufactured transmissions installed, the TCU programmed or cloned to your VIN and fully adapted.

Why it matters

🧠 Mechanical repair + programming, one roof

A replacement mechatronic, injector set or engine is only half the job. Without coding, adaptations and calibration the car drives badly or rejects the part entirely.

Because we program at dealer level — ECU & TCU programming and module cloning are our core work — every repair is finished in software before the car leaves.

Diagnose with data

Factory-level scan, live data, compression and leak-down tests — so the right part gets replaced.

Repair in our workshop

Engine and transmission work done in-house at 209 Stafford St, Worcester.

Program, code & adapt

Modules programmed, injectors coded and gearbox adaptations reset with dealer-level software.

Road-test & verify

A data-logged road test and a clean fault scan before the car is handed back.

Questions

❓ Engine & transmission FAQ

What engine and transmission jobs do you take on?
Complex ones: timing chains and VANOS, turbochargers, head gaskets and cooling systems, oil leaks and oil consumption, injectors, DSG / S tronic mechatronics and clutch packs, ZF 8HP, PDK and 7G-Tronic repairs, and used or remanufactured engine and gearbox installs.
Why does a transmission need programming after a repair?
Modern gearboxes learn clutch fill pressures, shift timing and torque values. After a mechatronic, valve-body or clutch repair those values no longer match the new parts, so the gearbox shifts harshly or slips until it's coded and adapted with factory software. We do that as part of the job.
Can you install a used engine or gearbox?
Yes. We install used or remanufactured units, then program or clone the control modules to your VIN and complete the adaptations so the car runs the way it should.
Do you work with extended warranties?
Yes — we work with all extended warranty companies and vehicle service contracts. We diagnose the failure, send the estimate and documentation to your warranty provider and handle the approval; you usually pay only your deductible plus anything the contract doesn't cover.
Do you give a written estimate first?
Yes. We diagnose first and give you a written estimate before any repair work starts — and if you have an extended warranty, we send it to your warranty company for approval.
Is limp mode always a failed gearbox?
No. Limp mode is often a sensor, wiring, software or adaptation problem. We read the data first, so you don't pay for a transmission you didn't need.
